Makeup Journey

Over the years, my perspective and the way I’ve done my makeup has changed. I think this goes the same for every girl. Looking back at my makeup collection last year versus this year and seeing the change is shocking. In middle school, I had been fairly new to makeup. I had watched my fair share of makeup videos on YouTube throughout my childhood, but working with actual makeup is a lot harder than the videos. For me, the thing I had the most difficulty with was shade matching. To this day, whenever I buy a new concealer or foundation, I still have trouble finding the correct shade.

Looking back to old photos, I see the way I would do my makeup and it frightens me. Thick eyeliner, pounds of blush and concealer that was either too light or dark for me. Eventually, I found my way of products and established a routine that works for me. But we all know in like a month that routine will become another routine. Especially since summer has hit, I’ve been able to experiment with new shades since I’ve become tanner.

I now actually use highlighter and contour/bronzer. Also, I still don’t know what the difference between contour and bronzer is. I’ve found the brands that work for my specific skin and the blush and lip shades that compliment my skin tone. When I had finally understood the color theory, my makeup had changed greatly. From using the brightest pink lipstick ever, I now use a more neutral shade that goes along with my skin.

It still stuns me how much I’ve grown in my makeup journey. Flashback to middle school where I would experiment over quarantine with eyeliner and mascara. And now fast forward to high school me who has a different routine based on the occasion.

I love the appearance part of being a girl. Sitting down, doing your hair and makeup is the most relaxing thing to me. I find so much enjoyment in it and sometimes for fun I’ll just do my makeup for no reason. No guy will ever understand what makeup means to a girl and how confident a girl can be with it.
